LEVEL 2: AVALANCHE STATEMENT

Avalanche Forecast:

Avalanche activity above the road MAY OCCUR. Resulting avalanche debris reaching the road grade is POSSIBLE but NOT LIKELY.

Travel Advisory:

Through travel only in the JC Road corridor, do not stop vehicles.

It is recommended that any person operating equipment in the corridor wear an avalanche transceiver and have access to rescue equipment.

Weather and Snowpack Summary:

It has been 5 days since the last snowfall event and the recent melt freeze cycle during that time has worked to consolidate the snowpack. While much of the snowpack is becoming more cohesive, the bottom 25cm (10”) is still comprised of weak, unconsolidated snow.

Snow is forecasted through the week with the peak occurring this afternoon into the early evening. The snow this afternoon will be accompanied by strong and gusty southwest winds that will, along with snowfall and temperatures begin to decrease later this evening.

Temperatures will be much colder behind this storm system, but will slowly warm during the week as additional storm systems move through the area.
